Why We’re Switching to Flodesk for Email Marketing from Convertkit

There are a lot of things you need to figure out when you are starting a business. From figuring out what your brand will look like to what combination of systems you are going to use to actually make the machine run, the number of options (and suggestions) can be overwhelming. I mean, it took us months of research and discussion to come up with all of this stuff, and that was before we had even purchased a domain.

Part of our mission here at Sourced Co. is to make sure we are doing what we can to make your business journey a little less frustrating. Because, what’s a service-based business if it isn’t trying to lend a helping hand? So today, we wanted to share something that we recently found (and fell in love with) because of how it helps us do business better. Read on for the reasons why we are switching to Flodesk for email marketing from Convertkit and see if it might help you out too!

It’s a Female Founded Business

As a female founded business, supporting another is a no-brainer! Flodesk was founded by Martha Bitar and Rebecca Shostak in an effort to make it easy for small business owners to use email marketing like a big business would. We are always stoked about women who are working to level the playing field and are thrilled to be using a platform founded by women with a similar mission.

In an interview with Forbes, Martha went on to explain:

“We were talking about how painful it was to see so many brilliant creators and business owners miss out on email marketing, which is by far the highest converting channel. The tools currently on the market have failed to provide this rising industry of innovative entrepreneurs and content creators with the ability to market as beautifully and successfully as the big brands. Single person businesses do not have a massive marketing team behind them to design visual assets, write copy, or craft high converting emails—so we set out to build a platform that gave our members that power.”

We had the pleasure of meeting Martha at Showit United and (just like us), she was so excited to see her business baby in the wild. We showed her our account, had a great conversation about running a business that serves creatives, and maybe talked about a little something more—stay tuned!

The Design Quality Matches Our Brand

In an aesthetics driven industry, your brand is everything. And, while sometimes we all make concessions for function over form, using an email marketing platform that didn’t make it easy for us to really design on-brand emails was (to be honest) making us die a little bit each time we sent one. Flodesk makes it easy to create email newsletters that look like we spent days designing it in minutes—and, since you can set your account’s standards to include things like your brand colors, it streamlines the customization process.

Creating and Installing Email Sign Up Forms is Easy

Even more important than being able to send out gorgeous email newsletters is being able to easily grow an email list. And, while Flodesk isn’t going to get you to 10k subscribers without any effort, Martha and Rebecca have done what they can to make it as easy as possible. Creating an email sign up form in Flodesk takes minutes (even to customize it to match your brand standards) and installing it is too! Yes, you have to copy and paste a bit of code into the backend of your website, but I promise it isn’t scary!

Flodesk Makes it Easy to Create Workflows

As a team of women who all have lots of life to balance on top of a business, we are always jazzed to find software that helps us automate parts of our process. And, ain’t nobody got time to send email sequences out manually! We are currently in the process of setting up workflows to deliver our free stock photos offer, welcome series to new list subscribers, and onboarding email for our members, and love that Flodesk makes the process visual (hey hey creative business owners!). We’ll update this blog post when the process of setting up all of these email workflows is finished, but based on everything else we have experienced using the tools, we are pretty sure it’s going to be as easy as it can be!

The Icing on the Cake—a Zapier Integration!

Ok, this one is for the nerds out there! (Or, at least the people who aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and do the not-so-easy-but-makes-things-easy thing.) We started a Flodesk account pretty soon after learning that it existed, but one of the big features that was keeping us from fully migrating was a Zapier integration. Because, with the way our automated emails are set up, we need Zapier to automatically move different people on and off of different email lists. (Again, ain’t nobody got time for that!) And, while a Zapier integration is currently in beta, we know that being able to fully migrate off of Converkit and onto Flodesk is in the near future!
